Chequamegon 40 course slightly re-routed
CABLE, Wisc. August 31, 2017
Just in time for a Labor Day Weekend pre-ride, the Chequamegon 40 and Short & Fat 16 mile off road bicycle race courses are marked.
The Chequamegon 40 course is marked with blaze orange arrows from Rosie’s Field entrance off Highway 77 at Fish Hatchery Road all the way to the Mt. Telemark finish line in Cable.
Recent rains left a section of deep standing water on the American Birkebeiner trail resulting in a short 1.5 mile re-route of the Chequamegon 40 course at Phipps Fire Lane and Gravel Pit Road.
At that point, the long course route will continue on the Phipps Fire Lane north approximately one mile then travel east for one half mile on the Duane Mrotek Memorial ATV Trail back to the Birkie Trail. From there the route will continue north on the Birkie Trail to County Highway OO. No shortening of the forty mile race distance is anticipated.
The Short & Fat 16 mile course is marked with hot pink arrows from Randysek Road in Cable just south of County Highway M all the way to the Mt. Telemark finish line in Cable. The Short & Fat race course is in good riding condition with some rough sections on the west to east traverse of Camp 38 Road between Randysek Road and Spider Lake Fire Lane.
Cyclists should note that the race courses are not closed to other user traffic. You may and will encounter a variety of user traffic in both directions on any of the public road or ATV/Snowmobile sections. Please be courteous on the shared use trails.
The Chequamegon MTB Festival slated for the September 16 weekend is presented by Trek and produced by Life Time Fitness. For more information visit www.cheqfattire.com.
